So Mama Jeff gets home;yea at some point you catch on with your son's newly found habit of referring to oneself in the third person. So anyway I get home and little man and I head for our normal bonding session in my room.
I plan to do my nails-polish them and what not-both toe and finger nails and the agenda is to teach babyboy that tutex,as he calls it,is for girls and not boys.
Before I finish thinking of how that agenda will be brought to fruition,he's already at my side helping me arrange the equipment I will use on the stool-cotton wool, nail polish remover, nail polish etc etc
"Mum..pakapaka mimi tutex..apa,"(points at his big toe)he begins.
I pick him up and place him on the bed,"Jeff...hii si ya boys ni ya girls" I start.."paka paka Jeff apana."
He looks at me quizzically like I‘m a funny looking woman from Shrekland.I guess it's because normally I paint one of his nails and continue with mine;but I can tell he gets it,today mum has said no:)
And he sits there quietly watching mommy's nails change from color green to red.
And I sit there throwing a glance at him once in a while.
Is this little man really mine??I ask myself.
It is at such moments that it strongly occurs to me that I'm actually a mommy!I brought to life another human being who I'm now responsible for.As he gets to grow,to learn,to make mistakes,as he becomes a grown human being I will have the priviledge of impacting his life and setting a pace for him, nurturing him, fighting with him but being his friend at the same time..ain‘t that just something?Would you kindly help me my God..would You just teach me what to teach him..this I pray!!
And so today we retire to bed-it's sleepover night in mommy's bed for Jeff.We retire to bed having learnt one lesson:Tutex ni ya girls na si ya boys!!
