I really really really-many really's want to check out the GENTS at our work place.Really really.I'm seated here thinking I just would really like to check in, scrutinize the place, check out and do a happy dance for managing to pull such a ninja-ical stunt. We all need to do that some time..check into the GENTS at our workplaces.
I'm sipping my porridge as I write this.Yes I carry porridge to work.Sour traditionally fermented porridge. The little yummys of this life. With every sip I'm realising I really do enjoy traditional foods..except for yams.I don't mind arrow roots, sweet potatoes, green bananas, the mix of maize and beans, traditional veggies like terere, boiled maize, njahi, mukimo, pumpkins etc. I believe I don't mind these foods because my mommy has raised us on the same.I'd like to pass on the same menu to the younging. We are in a generation where people live and breathe French fries, deep fried chicken from the fish and chips places(do those joints usually have fish even-I wonder), pizza with the extra stuff on top, ice cream, nyama choma.I'll tell you I relish those kinda foods, very much so!But I'd like my youngster to embrace healthy eating. Now that we're on that storo about food you can check my friend Jess's blog Leo Tunapika? She has some totally fun recipes you can try out and the best part is they are simply simple!
The other day here at work, a regular customer walked in and as I served her she said, "Sasa unakaa smart na hiyo nywele."
This is what she was referring to
"Ile ingine...apana..ilikua inakufanya ukae siju aje," and she went on to shake her head in disapproval.
<---This was ile ingine.
We all know hell hath no fury like a woman criticized about her former hairstyle.I did not receive that comment with bells and whistles and
all things
party.I looked at her, daring her to continue.I really really wanted to throw her documents back at her and tell her to get served by someone else.
Instead... well...well what do you know! The stern look metamorphosised into a smile.
"So wewe unaprefer hii hairstyle kuliko ile ingine?" I asked her.
"Eeeh hii ni smart kabisa," she offered.
"Well hiyo ni opinion yako..na kila mtu akona opinion yake." I said to her as I stamped her things and handed them back to her with a smile while looking deep into her eyes.Cutting into her soul.Confident.Unshaken.Ironman!And she walked off shaken.I think I saw her tail go in between her legs.Hehe anyway I'm kidding she just strutted off like nothing had happened and she keeps coming back and I still smile at her.
Thing is,people have different opinions.I say this because my HR manager and I were chatting the other day, before I got my new hairstyle and she said to me "'Carol your hair is very exciting,I love the color," (she was referring to photo number two) and she went on to tell me how she had a bob-cut in the days of her youth and she totally used to rock it.It was a good conversation. It did not leave me in fury.
That's the reason I love my job.And another reason is the fact that I am expected to smile regardless of what I'm feeling inside. This has been such a place of growth for me because I'm the kind of person(used to be the kind of person) that doesn't know how to be nice when I don't really feel like it.There's something about smiling even when you don't feel like it.It kind of washes away the ugly feelings that may be going through your system.Kinda helps you to forget about them even if temporarily.Sometimes permanently.
People will always have an opinion about you. They will judge not only your hair, but your clothes, your shoes. They will have an opinion about you as a person, about your family, your friends, your boyfriend, your girlfriend. But in all truth, you cannot live your life based on what people say about you.Live your own life.Love yourself and those around you who matter. And above all else find out what God's opinion of you is.Because those are the significant opinions in this life.
Think about it.
