Chivalry...he didn't die after all.

Chivalry is not dead!
I know this because I have not seen him in the obituaries.Have you?No pathologist has come forward with his postmortem results.I haven't met anyone that attended his funeral.I see chivalry everyday actually.Unless you want  to tell us that he is a dead man walking,I don't think chivalry is dead!

How do I know that he's a 'HE'? Wellll....I don't! I just picked the he for him!
I see chivalry in my little brother.Everyday when I get home from work, I'm received with a warm hug and a kiss on the cheek. He asks me how my day was.
My son has chivalry going on.Oh yes, even those who are almost a mere 3 years of age can be friends with chivalry. It's in the way he insists on helping me carry the shopping whenever I come home with some. The distance from the door to the kitchen is 2 seconds. But that still counts as a kind gesture, right?Sometimes he goes for the handbag. The distance between his arms and and the floor makes that a rather ridiculous sight!
In this Guy Jesus, I see a lot of chivalry. It's in the gentleness with which He handles me.In my weakness He comes through and makes me stronger.Holding my hand all the while and keeping me from falling. And even though I fall,He lifts me up!It's in the way He honors and keeps His word. When He left for Heaven,He told the disciples that He would be with them even to the end of he ages.Up until today,He is with us.I speak with Him every morning. It's in the way He answers prayers so graciously and in good time.Always in good time because His timing is perfect!
I told you!Chivalry is not dead!!

I thoroughly enjoyed my one week leave off work.It was refreshing.
I slept alot.Younging and I, we'd sleep during the day until the nanny would come to wake us up.It was awesome mommy-son time.
I visited the land of my ancestors for a few days.I went to see my grandmama. The one from Coming to Ameruca. She spat on my hand as I left and said to me in Kimeru "Child,You are blessed and the Father above knows the plans He has for you." Isn't it wonderful to walk away knowing you have the blessings of your elders? That's why I almost did a  jig once I stepped out of her house.
The sight of clean upcountry river water made me rush to the banks and scoop some in my hands.I wanted to carry some in a bottle.Just so that I could come and show the Nairobi river that being a Nairobian isn't so hype after all. That living in shagz has great benefits-like always being sparkling super clean.I wonder if Nairobi  River would have been offended by my words and actions.
Next to that beautiful river was a small boy with a jerican/jerrycan in his hand. That boy must have been my son's agemate and he seemed determined to fetch water and take it back to a possibly waiting mother. Children in the land of my ancestors are nothing like Nairobi children.(Now I sound like I was born in Ameruca eey?) I admired the child's efforts, to say the least.
I also watched my little cousin who's a little past 2 years of age walking barefoot on the hard rocky ground outside.I watched him as he started running and I wanted to go grab him and help him find some shoes. His mother however laughed it off and told me that this was the life.I couldn't help but think of my little one;how I always fuss when he steps out of the house barefoot.I salute you my little upcountry cousin!
But it's the "Mutaenda na ngari yenu Nairobi Auntie?Wewe ndio utaendesa?" It's  the accent that they develop that helps you know they are truly children of the upcountry.
I shall carry my little one to the upcountry the next time I go.Maybe he can practice some weight lifting.A trip or two to the river and back, jerican/jerrycan in hand, will surely do.And when he gets thirsty he can take a quick sip from it.
My boyfriend took time off work to come spend a day with younging and I. He is of the opinion that I'm a derailer.I am of the opinion that everyone needs a break. You know what they say about Jack working and not playing!
Isn't it wonderful to have a boyfriend?Someone to share love with.I am a firm believer in love.I think I'm a hopeless romantic while at it.
It so happens that this boyfriend is my bestfriend.(The guy I keep mentioning in this blog.)You saw that coming?Oh really?Oh really? No you didn't!
We sat at the dining table to have lunch.Boyfriend, babyboy and I. I watched them get excited over a toy car. This one usually makes sounds and they vroomed it all over the table.Bad table manners is allowed on such occasions At some point I began questioning how old the boyfriend is.I agree- boys are, shall be and will be boys!
They played football together.I stood watching them and at some point I fell in love over again with this man.I'm sure we've all had those moments when we fall in love with our partners over and over for the most unlikely reasons. It's the way their laughter rang in the air.And the way younging's sandal would fly in the air as did the ball everytime he kicked it.
We all sat on the couch and covered ourselves with a blankie at some point. We sat there and said nothing for a short while, before the  energized almost three year old started moving around and  stepping all over us.That evening when the boyfriend left, I kept stealing sniffs of that very blankie-his lingering scent.Hopeless romantic!Bear with me.
He is a chivalrous man, my boyfriend.Boyfriend!Too funny. We've been laughing at how ridiculous  this newly found statuses sound. We are boyfriend and girlfriend.Really? My bestfriend is friends with chivalry. It's in the little things he does like allowing me to walk in front of him whenever we tread a narrow path. It's in the way he'll always walk on the outer lane so that I'm protected from passing vehicles. It's in the way he always takes me to the bus stop after our dates, makes sure I get a matatu and wants to know that I got home safe. It's the goodmorning texts and goodnighties even when I black out in the middle of our conversations. It's in the way he kisses my hand and tells me loves me.I see another hopeless romantic somewhere here!
Chivalry is not dead!
