MUFASA!!!

We sat to watch the Lion King 1 last night,my son and I.He was thoroughly entertained. He kept chuckling whenever Simba, the lion cub, would appear in a scene.I think kids relate well with other kids. They get excited in the presence of other kids(even if in this case the other kids in question are kid lions) It gives them a sense of belonging I guess.Especially for  kids like my youngster who is always surrounded by grown ups.I'm betting he secretly prays for a sister or a brother every morning.Sigh!Maybe I should get him a baby lion.
Mufasa! The king. The sound of his roar spoke(spoke?yes!) might, power, royalty, one to be revered.
Simba!A heir to the throne.A king to be.
Simba was out playing in the beautiful savanna grassland of Pride Rock.Within the territory that belonged to his Father. And he purposely by mistake extended his play session into the elephant graveyard. The territory his father had cautioned him against.Specifically telling him never to go there.  He was too excited to obey though. The curiosity, the discovery thrilled him.The forbidden fruit tasted sweetest until eeeh the hyenas appeared and wanted to kill him.He was cornered against a wall.Nowhere to run to.Nowhere to hide.BUT!His Father came to his rescue.Right on time. With just his roar the hyenas scampered away in fear.
Shortly after this misfortune,Simba is caught in the midst of a stampede 'stage managed' by his Uncle Scar-brother to Mufasa.Scar wants Mufasa terminated so that he can sit on the throne.Be the new King. His dream comes true for sure.Mufasa goes to the aid of Simba during this stampede- yet again. He manages to save Simba but this time he loses his life in the process.Evil Scar pushes him off a cliff as he tries to pull himself from the way of the raging wildebeests. He pushes him right after Mufasa asks him for help.
If you have watched the Lion King this is the point where tears well up in your eyes. And if the don't then you have no soul!
Simba is made to believe(by Scar) that he is responsible for his father's death. This is made possible because he did not see Scar push Mufasa.Scar,at that point, tells Simba to run away.To run and never come back to Pride Rock because....shame!What would his family say?How would the rest of the kingdom view him.He did not want to handle the judgement, the segregation. So Simba ran..and ran...and ran...He wanted to forget his past,to forget who he was..the son of the king.He ran and ran and found new friends,a new life, new environment. But for some reason he couldn't wash away the memories of where he had come from.
His childhood friend found him years later and convinced him to go back to the kingdom and take his position. The kindom was suffering under the rule of Scar. There was no water,no food,no peace. He obliged and went back to his people. In the process found out that he was not after all responsible for his father's death.Scar was.The guilt and shame Simba had held on to were all a lie.Self condemnation..all of it a lie!So Simba took his rightful position in the kingdom.Child of the king, now the king himself.
Today's post seems like a commentary on this movie hehee I  know!Well I learnt quite some lessons from this movie. This Disney movie that I was watching for the fourth time and will certainly watch for a fifth.
King Mufasa reminds me of our Heavenly Father. The Guy upstairs who is always coming to our rescue. When we accidentally on purpose run right into sin,toy with it,carry it lightly. We all do this until the hyenas come at us.We are left shrivelled, scared, helpess, defenseless, about to perish. But Christ comes to our rescue. He rescued us for the very first time at Calvary. When he died for us.Death.Such an ultimacy. It was the most He could do for us.And He did it.So that we would take our position in the kingdom.Daughters and sons of the Most High. Why is it so hard for us to realise who we are?How come we easily forget and we roll in the mud of sin over and over. How come we do not guard our salvation with fear and trembling?Sin drains our souls.Interrupts our relationship with our Heavenly Father. What lures us?What is that forbidden place we always find ourselves running to?
For you who is not a believer, what is preventing you from accepting this wonderful gift of salvation all together? What are the pleasures you are holding on to?What are you still curious about and want to try out that one last time?
My Bible tells me that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God..that gift is life everlasting!Such a precious gift.
Don't wait till it's too late.Do not wait until you end up in that car crash for drunk driving.Or until your health takes a landslide for over indulgence in drugs and alcohol.Don't wait until you catch the virus because you're sleeping around.Don't wait until you lose your job because you're engaging in unlawful practices.Don't wait until you mess up your relationships with your family just because you cannot listen to the voice of reason your parents or spouse offer to you.
For you daughter or son of the Most High who is still wallowing in sin, take your rightful position in the kingdom.Stop walking outside of royalty, rolling in the mud of sin. What if  one day your Mufasa does not come to your rescue. What if you perish? What if!
